Mike Uihlein is serving as a team physician for an eleventh season with the U.S. National Sled Hockey Team.

Since joining the U.S. staff in 2013-14, Uihlein has served on teams that have claimed 11 titles, including three Paralympic gold medals (2014, 2018, 2022); four world championships (2015, 2019, 2021, 2023); five Para Hockey Cups (fromerly World Sled Hockey Challenge) titles (2015, 2016 (Jan.), 2016 (Dec.), 2017, 2019) as well as the 2016 IPC Pan-Pacific Championship and 2018 Turin Para Ice Hockey International Tournament.

Uihlein also served on the Team USA squads that earned runner-up finishes at the 2017 Para Sled Hockey World Championship; 2013 IPC Sled Hockey World Championship; and 2013 World Sled Hockey Challenge.

After finishing his sports medicine fellowship in 2016, Uihlein now splits his time between the emergency department and the newly formed adaptive sports clinic at the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center.

Uihlein completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Colorado before graduating from the Medical College of Wisconsin in 2000. In 2003, Uihlein completed an emergency medical residency and worked as a full-time emergency room doctor in both Wisconsin and Hawaii until returning to the Medical College of Wisconsin for a sports medicine fellwoship 2015.

Uihlein resides in Grafton, Wisconsin, with his wife, Sandra, and their daughters, Brook and Zoe.

Tom Upton will serve as assistant coach for the 2022 U.S. Under-18 Men’s Select Team for the first time. Upton was recently named as assistant coach for the upcoming season for the University of Massachusetts men’s ice hockey team.

Upton recently wrapped up his second season as head coach for the USHL’s Madison Capitols, leading the team to a Clark Cup Finals. Prior to his time with the Capitols, Upton served as assistant coach for three seasons at Mercyhurst University where he helped the team to the Atlantic Hockey Association regular season title.

He served as assistant coach for the USHL’s Youngstown Phatoms (2016-17) as well as the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders (2013-14) in between his stint as GM/head coach of the NAHL’s Minnesota Magicians.

The Austin, Texas native played defense for four years of Division III Ice Hockey at the University of Wisconsin-Steven Point after his three seasons in the NAHL.
